Name any segment of the ag industry, and it’s likely that Karen Potratz has written about it. A talented public relations professional with a wealth of ag marketing knowledge, she has more than 30 years of experience in media relations, event management and content development for clients in animal health, crop protection, livestock genetics and more.

Karen grew up on a dairy farm in eastern Iowa, which was in her family for 150 years and achieved Iowa Heritage Farm status. Now she puts her seasoned skills and keen mind toward public relations strategies reaching the farmer audiences she knows so well.

Karen’s career at MorganMyers is a homecoming — it first began in 1999, when the communications agency she helped create, Sargent & Potratz, joined forces with MorganMyers. Her unwavering passion and unflappable personality allow her to embrace the endless variety of work and remain excited to solve new client challenges.

WHAT MOVES ME?

I’m inspired by farmers. In the early years of my career, I spent much of my time on the road — from New York to Florida to California and back to Wisconsin — talking to farmers and capturing their stories. Everywhere I went, these farmers showed incredible determination and innovation.

These days, I don’t get into the field as often as I’d like to, but it’s gratifying to know that in a small way I am helping farmers take advantage of the best products and technologies to improve their productivity, sustainability and ability to feed the world.

A LITTLE ABOUT ME:

• Things I enjoy doing when I’m not working: spending time at our cabin near Dubuque, Iowa, which has been in our family for 50 years.
• The most inspiring part of my job is seeing young people grow and succeed in their careers.
• If I could be anywhere other than here, right this minute, I would be spending time with my granddaughter.
• Volunteer/passion projects I love to work on outside of work include managing public relations for the annual Donna Lexa Memorial Art Fair in Wales.
• On a Saturday morning, you’ll find me relaxing with a cup of coffee.
